Germany seeks conducive Political Climate to support Nepal

By:-Avash Shrestha German Parliamentary state Secretary for the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development Gudrun Kopp wrapped up her visit to Nepal as she urged the government towards formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Disappearance (CoD).Organizing a Press Conference by the German Embassy in Kathmandu, Kopp requested to take assent of the Kin of Victims while forming these Commissions. During her weeklong visit to Nepal, She met with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai,Finance Minsiter Barsha Man Pun and Peace and Reconstruction Minister Satya Pahadi.Likewise,Various civil society leaders,journalist and conflict victims got the opportunity to express their views with her as well. During this time frame, Germany assured to provide 10 million euro or about 1.06 billion to Nepal.
German Parliamentary State Secretary for the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development Gudrun Kopp addressing the media during the Press conference in Kathmandu,Nepal. While Government opted to give blanket amnesty to the accused criminals during Maoist insurgency,Kopp expressed that such move from government side will bring injustice to the victims. Furthermore, she requested for an Investigation of all rights violation cases in the past and bring the culprit to the law. “You cannot have peace without looking back to the past and settling what was wrong in the past,” she said. Likewise, she urged Political parties to prepare for the proper assistance environment as the German government is organizing a consultation meeting in may for upcoming German assistance to Nepal conference which is going to be held in November.
