Promoting NGOs? Governance and Management under Finland support

6 July 2012:Finland’s Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. to Nepal Mr. Kari Leppänen today signed agreement with NGO Federation of Nepal for support of NPR 16 348 254. The Embassy supports NGO Federation of Nepal to implement project on Promoting NGOs’ Governance and Management in Nepal. The project will be implemented in close collaboration with the concerned Government agencies and stakeholders. The total budget of the project is NPR 18 184 254.

 
NGO Federation of Nepal will implement the project ‘’Promoting NGOs' Governance and Management in Nepal’’ between July 2012 and July 2015. The project aims to increase access and voices of people to basic services and entitlements as the rights-holders by improving governance and management of NGOs/CSOs. NGO Federation will collaborate with SWC and NPC at central level and DDCs and VDCs at local levels to implement the project.
 
The project wil be implemented in seven districts (Parvat, Baglung, Kaski, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Dailekh and Doti) of Nepal and about 600 NGOs/CSOs working in these particular districts and entire network of NGO Federation of Nepal will be targeted by the project.
 
Based on the project document the three aimed results of the project are 1.) improved basic service delivery system in 7 districts with effective mobilization of NGOs through their watchdog roles 2.) enhanced multistakeholder collaboration at central and district levels on human development efforts with active participation of CSOs in NGO-friendly legal and working environment and 3.) improved governance and accountability of NGOs in 7 districts.
 
The Embassy supports selected projects of Nepalese non-governmental organizations which aim for conflict prevention and peace building or projects which are innovative and operate in the focus areas of Finland’s Development Policy Program by Fund for Local Cooperation (FLC). Annual amount of FLC is NPR 50 million (EUR 450 000).
 
The FLC is used to promote the objectives of Finland’s Development Policy Program: Finland emphasises the rule of law, democracy, human rights and sustainable development. The special priorities are education, decent work, reducing youth unemployment and improving the status of women and children. In these activities, Finland builds on its strengths in the educational sector, health promotion, communications and environmental technology, and good governance.
 
According to the press release of Finland Embassy, the total amount of development cooperation from Finland to Nepal is around NPR 2.2 billion (EUR 20 000 000) a year.For more information on corcerned projects, please contact Programme Coordinator Matti Väänänen,Embassy of Finland; Executive Director Daya Sagar Shrestha, NGO Federation of Nepal.
